The Human Touch: Interaction Evolved

“We partnered with frogVentures because we trusted the team to help define our market and brand vision, refine the product, and get us to a successful launch. Throughout the program, we have been continually impressed by frog’s flexibility, creativity, and willingness to go above and beyond to deliver results that always surpassed our expectations.”
Ilya Rosenberg and Aaron Zarraga, Co-Founders of Sensel
As a part of frogVentures™, frog partnered with Sensel, an early-stage start-up and graduate of Stanford’s StartX accelerator, to develop the strategy, design and launch of the Sensel Morph, a next-generation input device that allows creators and innovators to explore endless possibilities in the digital creation of music, art, gaming and beyond. The Sensel Morph is now available online.

Capturing the Nuance of Human Touch
Integrating more than 20,000 sensors into a device the size of an iPad, Morph translates the detail, speed, expression, and power of touch unlike any other input device available on the market. Sensel’s technology measures force not capacitance, allowing Morph to detect any object or tool imaginable from a paintbrush, to a drumstick, to a human hand.
Custom Interaction
To promote custom interaction, Morph will launch with eight overlay designs, including a QWERTY keyboard, an MPC-style MIDI controller, a piano, a drum pad, and a translucent “innovator’s” overlay that allows users to print their own custom interfaces. These dynamic, interchangeable overlays allow users endless opportunity for creation and play
Designing for Influential Markets
Understanding that design quality determines outcome, frog helped Sensel identify and build relationships with target audiences, including musicians, artists, developers, IoT innovators and makers likely to embrace the new platform. This beta group’s inspiring experimentation has been instrumental in creating new enhancements for the product launch.
From Crowdfunded to Company
Sensel started as a crowdfunded campaign, reaching its initial goal of $60K in just three hours, and surpassing that goal by more than 7x in just two weeks. As they move towards full product launch this fall, they maintain this user-driven attitude by continuing to work with diverse communities to enhance uses from accessibility to art and music.
March 2015
Sensel partnered with frog to develop both a product design and consumer-facing brand identity for their proprietary multi-touch pressure-sensing technology.
August 2015
The Morph Kickstarter campaign launched and quickly exceeded its $60K fundraising goal by more than 7x.
March 2017
The Sensel Morph has proceeded to win a number of awards, including Best in Show at the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards, and Best Concept and Best in Category: Disrupting, at the IxDA Awards.
Since the success of the crowdfunding campaign, frog has continued to support Sensel in building upon this momentum and maintaining their user-centric approach as they move towards a full product launch that will provide access to a much larger audience potential Morph users.
