Reinventing the Payphone

In late 2012, New York City challenged its creative community to imagine the payphone of the future. frog’s New York studio responded with a next generation public communication hub that connects the city and its services with communities, businesses, residents, and visitors. Gently rising out of the sidewalk, the concept’s slender concrete and stainless steel structure encloses a stack of indestructible LED matrix screens. Controlled by voice and gesture, the screens provide ad-supported revenue streams as well community information and emergency services. frog’s vision creates a more accessible, safer, healthier, greener, and better-informed New York City in the best of times and the most challenging. For more information and to vote for the concept in the city’s design challenge, visit New York City’s Facebook page.
