Security Software

CA Technologies

“CA hired experts to devise an attractive and thoroughly integrated interface. Its Internet Security Suite Plus 2010 is visually stunning.”

This project began as a way to unify CA Technolgies' existing suite of seven Internet security products into a new, more competitive product. It ended up providing a means for the CA brand to connect with its customers.

CA came to frog to design a new security software product, Internet Security Suite Plus 2010. Its existing offering comprised seven products, with different appearances and overlapping functionality—an offering that PC Magazine called “Frankenstein’s monster” in appearance. CA partnered with frog to develop a user interface that would increase the visual appeal of its products while also unifying them. The company wanted to be more competitive with top brands like McAfee and Norton, improve its industry reviews, and increase its renewal conversions. frog was able to do this by concentrating on simplifying the user interface. Intuitive work flows improve the user experience and engagement while making the software easier to master.

Product Details

The two products frog focused on for CA were B2B Threat Manager and the PC Tune-Up Plus 2.0. B2B Threat

Manager is the small business equivalent of CA’s consumer-facing security software. It’s a much more complex application that can be configured many different ways, depending on the specific needs and size of the organization (remote offices, different locations, department structure, and number of employees). frog focused on updating the maintenance and monitoring activities, and the design team added a dashboard screen to allow the most vital information to bubble up, with drill-down options into more detail.

CA’s PC Tune-Up Plus 2.0 optimizes a computer’s performance, stability, and security by finding and removing fragmented files from the machine. Because CA had acquired PC Tune-Up from a third party, the challenge for frog was to remove the old brand identity and visual characteristics and replace it with a more user-friendly interface that was a part of the CA family. The frog team actually collaborated with the software’s original creator and owner and his development team to reorganize the user experience and work flows. The imagery and icons now enhance the clarity of the product’s capabilities and communicate the process in a clear and visual way.
