Modern Fireplace

Energetec

frog teamed with Energetec to update the classic wood burning Bullerjan stove. The result is elegant design and world-class engineering and energy efficiency.

Originally developed by lumberjacks in the snow-covered Canadian Rocky Mountains more than thirty years ago, the Bullerjan wood-burning stove is widely regarded as the icon of all wood stoves. The Bullerjan Classic, with its enormous heating capacity and its unmistakable design shape, has been a best seller and a market standard for the last 30 years because of its ability to be purposeful yet beautiful. Energetec, the company behind the Bullerjan brand, wanted to create a new generation of Bullerjan stoves, so they approached frog to help them incorporate the brand’s heritage and continue its success story with the award-winning Bullerjan DOT.

Increased Efficiency

Many people enjoy the romantic ambiance of a wood burning fire when it comes to heating their homes, but most also despair at the inefficiency (wood burns fast) and mess of traditional fireplaces (there's the ash to clean up). The classic Bullerjan design allows wood to burn efficiently because of a series of tubes that “wrap” the central chamber and pull cold air from the ground and push hot air out the top. Also, the barrel-like burn chamber allows for near complete combustion of the wood with very little ash accumulation. Combined with a natural convection action

system that requires no fan (and thus no gas, electricity, or noise), the original Bullerjan is surprisingly efficient.

Energetec and frog's newest Bullerjan DOT uses the same principle of offset tubes to efficiently circulate air but they have been improved upon; the tubes are now rectangular sections that actually form the body of the burn chamber. The design reduces parts in the manufacturing process and brings the moving air closer to the heat source, allowing an increased amount of airflow. The DOT adapts the stove's original principles with more elegant and more efficient wood burning experience.

Innovative and Elegant Look

The classic Bullerjan conveyed a very technical, machine-like feel that didn't seem to fit into recent interior trends that covet a cozy and warm environment. To update the look, frog designers honed in on the convection tubes. The integration of the air-intake into a pedestal created a much more elegant solution for the tubes. By introducing randomly aligned rectangular tubes for the airflow, a beautiful, harmonizing tension of functionality and emotion was created. The product has been transformed into an elegant, sculpturally defined centerpiece for a modern living room.
