Twitter is a rich source of information that can identify real-time trends and insights from around the world. A team of technologists in frog’s Milan studio wanted to make sense of this continuous data stream, so they created A World of Tweets (AWOT), a web-based visualization using HTML 5 that shows a real-time global heat map of Twitter hot spots. Users can view the “rain of tweets” in various formats. They can toggle between map and satellite views or watch in 3D (glasses required). Users can also track the total number of worldwide tweets sent since November 2010. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey tweeted about AWOT, and TIME, Harvard Business Review, and Fast Company have all covered it.
