Software, Hardware, Everyware
“Software, Hardware, Everyware,” the first European edition of frog’s design mind speaker series, will take place on September 25, 2008 at the International Design Center in Berlin. Designing for Change
The cultural and corporate landscapes are changing, with consumers placing increased emphasis on experience over artifact, emotion over style, individual over collective identity. On September 11, 2008, frogs Jon Kolko and Matt Schoenholz will present “Designing in the Face of Change” to the assembled IDSA Conference – calling for a more fluid, more responsible, and more integrated design process to address today’s new market realities.
Open-Source Design in China
On September 18, 2008, frog Founder Hartmut Esslinger will give a keynote presentation at the Shanghai Design Biennial 2008, examining notions of design and control in an increasingly open-source world. Members of frog design’s Shanghai studio will attend the sessions, as well, sharing our insights in innovation and the regional economy.
Wanted: The Next Apple and Sony
Hartmut Esslinger, frog founder and groundbreaking designer of some of Apple and Sony’s earliest successes, will join Lorraine Justice, Head of the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Liu Ning, Head of R&D / Chief of Design, Haier in Shanghai to discuss what it takes to become the next Apple and Sony. This design mind speaker series event looks at the similarities and differences of two of the world’s most innovative companies and what it takes to be a leader in today’s consumer electronics market.
Design for Startups
Scott Nazarian, principal designer for frog will speak to technologists, entrepreneurs, and developers about the role of design in new ventures, at v1.3 of StartUp SF on Wednesday, September 10th in San Francisco. After Nazarian takes the stage three demo companies will have 5 minutes with an open mic to test their elevator pitches against the crowd. All proceeds from the event will go to Doctors Without Borders.
Design-Schooling Business Execs

frog is hosting Churchill Club for an evening with award-winning journalist Sarah Lacy and Max Levchin, CEO of Slide and co-founder of PayPal. Lacy released her book Once You're Lucky, Twice You're Good: The Rebirth of Silicon Valley and Rise of Web 2.0 last May, after 10 years of reporting on startup business and culture in the Valley.
